Ravenscroft on form in Windies
Saturday 14th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
TIM RAVENSCROFT has done his chances of full England age-group representation no harm with two man-of-the-match performances on tour in the Caribbean. Ravenscroft, widely regarded as the best young cricket prospect to come out of the island since Lee Savident won a place in the Hampshire county side, has been playing for the West of England under-15s in Barbados and Trinidad.
The tour was due to end yesterday with a game against the Trinidad age-group side on the island’s test ground, Queen’s Park Oval.
Guernsey development coach Jason Shambrook reports that while tour information coming out of the West Indies has been sketchy, the Sarnian has performed, in the main, very well on a tour which featured game against full Barbabos and Trinidadian junior teams.
‘He scored 34 in one game, one in another, a 60 not out and a 30 not out.
‘He has also had two man-of-the-match awards.’
Shambrook added that the next step to full international age-group recognition is the famous week-long Bunbury Festival in the summer.
The event features all the country’s four under-15 regional sides – North, South, East and West – and from it the England under-15 touring side will be chosen.
Many of the country’s current first-class cricketers have played in the Bunbury festival and approaching 50 gone on to play for the full England side.
