Escaped prisoner is on the agenda
Monday 16th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
AN INTERIM report into the escape from prison of an alleged killer will be discussed today. The Home Department launched an inquiry after Craig Rouget, 18, ran off from a working party at Les Nicolles on Saturday 7 April.
He was free for 16 minutes before his parents took him back.
Home minister Geoff Mahy said that the governor had assured him that an interim report would be complete in time to discuss at the department’s meeting this morning.
‘They are in the process of carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances and also looking very closely at all their procedures to ensure this doesn’t happen again,’ said Deputy Mahy.
It will be the last item on the board’s agenda and could take its meeting into lunchtime.
Deputy Mahy added that the prison staff were not trying to hide anything.
‘They’re interviewing every person who had the slightest involvement, recording them and doing transcripts.
‘That’s why at this stage it’s only an interim report.’
