A MIND coach who helped train motor racing champion Andy Priaulx is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in St Julian’s Avenue. Ian Pollock, 56, suffered serious head injuries in the incident, which happened near the Lower Canichers junction at 6.30pm on Friday.

Mr Pollock, who is from Edinburgh, was taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance. He was flown to Southampton General at 3am on Saturday.

He had come to the island with his wife, Phyllis, to deliver a three-day seminar on the Silva Method of dynamic meditation.

The motor racing champion used that to help him win his second title.

Mr Priaulx was very concerned about his friend.

‘The next two to three days are going to be critical,’ he said on Saturday.

‘He loves Guernsey and he was going to be here until Thursday. It’s a great shame – such a shame.

‘I’m doing everything I can now for his family to make sure they’ve got everything they need.’

Mr Priaulx commended the emergency services on their dealing with the situation.

‘The medical staff and police have been tremendous. The level of treatment was first class and the police were very professional.’

A police liaison officer is in contact with Mr Pollock’s family and his friends in the island.

A Southampton hospital spokesman said that Mr Pollock remained in a critical condition this morning.
