Aurigny boss in post-terror chaos

Monday 2nd July 2007, 12:00AM BST.

Aurigny managing director Malcolm Hart was caught up in the chaos of the Glasgow airport terrorist attack. The airline boss was forced to abandon his flight from Glasgow to Guernsey yesterday, driving 220 miles to fly from Manchester instead.

A blazing Jeep was crashed into the main doors of Glasgow’s terminal one on Saturday afternoon.

The whole of the UK is now on critical security alert, meaning another attack is expected imminently.

Mr Hart said he had decided not to fly from Glasgow after hearing reports of four-hour delays due to tightened security.

‘I heard about the incident literally five minutes after it happened, as my mother knows someone who works at the airport,’ he said.

‘They’ve stopped people from driving near the terminal buildings, so I decided it would be easier to go from Manchester instead.’

Four men are being held in connection with the attack and another is in hospital with severe burns after setting himself ablaze at the scene.

Only 36 hours earlier, two car bombs that failed to detonate had been found in the heart of London.
