Wage bar raised

HOUSING has increased the amount of money that people can earn and still qualify for a States house. Minster Dave Jones said that the move would not disadvantage people who had been moved out already following the recent tenancy reviews.

‘The board is satisfied that the department has only reviewed the tenancies of people whose incomes were considerably above the previous income thresholds,’ he said.

‘These reviews clearly show that the people who have been required to leave States accommodation would have still been asked to move on as they all had incomes greater than the new income thresholds.’

The limits are part of the criteria used for assessing who is eligible for States housing.

Deputy Jones said the new thresholds meant more families and pensioners would be eligible to join the waiting list for social rented housing.

He added that the board paid close attention to the rents being charged in the private sector.

‘This will ensure that those States tenants no longer eligible to be housed by us have access to decent accommodation.’
