Regulation coverage is money in The Banker

GUERNSEY’S reputation as a leading international finance centre has been boosted by significant positive coverage in this month’s issue of The Banker. The July edition of the Financial Times Group publication carries a two-page feature on wealth management in the island, entitled ‘Responsive regulation’.

‘The article is very positive and to receive such coverage in what is a widely read and highly regarded publication amongst the wealth- management community is a considerable boost to Guernsey’s reputation around the world as a leading international finance centre,’ said Stephen Dewsnip, director of Rothschild (Guernsey), who features in the report.

The article was written by special projects editor Silvia Pavoni. Promotional agency GuernseyFinance arranged her visit to the island to interview industry practitioners early last month.

The article focuses on Guernsey’s robust but pragmatic regulatory framework and favourable tax environment, which together are encouraging growth in the island’s wealth management sector – banking, fiduciary services and investment funds.

Several finance industry figures are quoted, including Mr Dewsnip, Kleinwort Benson managing director Sandra Platts, Fortis director Paul Redhead, Praxis Fiduciaries director David Piesing, Robert Clifford and David Fitch from Investec and Alasdair McLaren, director of Saffery Champness.

‘Using the international trade media is a very effective way to promote Guernsey as the symbol of international finance to key decision makers in the global finance industry.

‘To that end, we are continually working to cultivate stronger relationships with journalists, either by offering contributed articles for their publications, briefing them in their home environments or, as in this case, inviting them to see the island and talk to practitioners face to face,’ said GuernseyFinance chief executive Peter Niven.

‘The list of publications that we work with is consistently being refined to ensure that not only is there an unprecedented breadth

of coverage but that the Guernsey brand is increasingly known

within the prestige publications read by the key decision-makers

in the international finance industry.’

GuernseyFinance has recently hosted journalists from International Fund Investment, Hedge Funds Review and IPE Real Estate.

Simon Hildrey, who writes for titles including Financial Times Fund Management, has also been in the island.

Last month in London, Mr Niven met 10 journalists from a range of publications including the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and at July’s Fund Forum conference in Monaco he made contact with representatives from several journals, including FT Mandate, International Herald Tribune and The Wall Street Journal.
