Dead woman’s family complain
Tuesday 31st July 2007, 12:00AM BST.
POLICE have named 43-year-old Carol Le Prevost as the woman who died in the early hours of Friday morning at an address in the Vale. A post mortem examination has been conducted and samples have been sent away for further analysis.
A police spokesman said investigations into her unexplained death were continuing and it was likely that an inquest would be held.
However, the way police have handled certain aspects of the enquiry have been criticised by Roland Le Prevost, her ex-husband of eight years.
He was unhappy that their 19-year-old son, Thomas, was not contacted directly by police about his mother’s death until nearly a day-and-a-half later.
He was also upset at the way police had conducted a search at her home after she was found dead at another house.
‘We were getting information about her death from every other sources except from the proper channels,’ said Mr Le Prevost.
‘All we wanted for Tom’s sake was proper answers and not have to chase the police up ourselves to get hold of a family liaison officer.’
Thomas, one of Ms Le Prevost’s three children, was at Global Gathering in the UK when he found out about his mother’s death on Friday morning.
He started his journey back to Guernsey immediately and arrived at his mother’s house at about 11pm. He said he could not believe the condition police had left it in.
‘The house was in a pretty decent state before the police turned up, but they ransacked the place. They had just turned everything upside down and left it. Drawers had been pulled out and left on the floor, ashtrays had been turned upside down and doors had been broken.
‘My 16-year-old cousin, who was asleep in her room, was woken by three police officers storming into her room at 4am.’
In response to the claims, a police spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that the closest next of kin were informed and that tidy searches were carried out at both the property where the body was found and at Carol Le Prevost’s home address.’
Mr Le Prevost added: ‘All we want is an apology from the police. They did not seem to think about the people who were left behind.
‘Just imagine how her 19-year-old son felt returning to a home left in that state after his mother had died?’
