SPECSAVERS celebrated a record profit share payout by staging a game show to find a winner
to announce the good news to staff. A team from the finance and international departments pitted their wits in a family fortunes style quiz with a difference.
Winning team leader John Perkins, the company’s finance director, went on to divulge the profit share.
He said the board was delighted with this year’s results.
‘In a tough retail economy Specsavers continues to record positive growth through continued UK and significant international expansion,’ he said.
‘In total, we will be paying out our largest ever profit share total of £2.3m., to be distributed among our staff.
‘In driving this growth, the support of our staff is crucial. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and loyalty, which has made this another successful year for the company.’
As the largest private optical retailer in the world, Guernsey-based Specsavers recorded a record turnover of £879m. last year, during which it opened 25 new optical stores in the UK alone, creating 400 jobs.
It now employs more than 16,000 people, more than 500 of whom are based at its La Villiaze headquarters.
One in four Specsavers stores is now on international soil, with plans to open a further 70 in the existing countries.
The company has recently established a supply chain in Australia and is set to expand its European presence by opening stores in Spain.
Specsavers hearing centres are also experiencing unprecedented tenfold growth and it now sells more hearing aids than any other UK retailer.
