Ephgrave secures fine puissance win
Saturday 4th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.
VISITING course designer Sue Stevenson tested horse and riders at the BSJA Summer Show. In ideal conditions at Chemin Le Roi, honours were shared out thanks to Stevenson’s excellent work.
In the nursery classes, Tegan Martin riding Rosslayne Elrond took top honours, leaving Luke Walters to wonder what he had to do to beat her.
In the 128cm classes, prizes were fairly well shared between Sarah Jackson and Sophie Burbridge and in the junior section Penny Freeman and Jodie Travers matched each other win for win so that they shared the Johnny Boy Memorial Trophy as leading junior riders at the show.
In the senior events on Saturday, the highlight was undoubtedly the puissance, which saw a starting field of 11 competitors over the first round.
Stevenson timed the raising of the wall just right so that the result was not known until after the fourth and final jump-off and resulted in a fine win for Sophie Ephgrave and her new mount, Go.
On Sunday the senior grand prix classes produced some fine jumping and resulted in wins for Tracey Bufton and Speed in the novice and Sally Hunt on Skippets Burnet in the open.
However, it was Bufton and her lovely chestnut gelding, Speed, who were most consistent overall and she walked away with the Incognito Trophy as leading senior rider.
The club has just one more rally tomorrow before its prestigious Horse of the Year Show, which takes place from 22 to 26 August.
