Perrio sets three marks

Monday 13th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

LOUISE PERRIO took advantage of good conditions at the Foote’s Lane track to rewrite the island 10,000m records. Her superb run of 36min. 37sec. wiped a full minute off Penny Buckingham’s 2003 club and island records and the time was also inside Jo McGarry’s all-comers’ best.

In what was a mixed Healthspan GIAAC championship race, Perrio was able to latch on to one of the leading male contenders.

‘I should probably say I had some help from Dave Dyke,’ said Perrio, who has run only one second more quickly for the distance on the road and that with a strong wind at her back.

Going into the race she had her eye on the record, but nevertheless considered the time as ‘a nice surprise’.

Her next targets are to beat her own 5,000m mark in a fortnight’s time and then beat her Jersey rival, Jo Gorrod (nee McGarry) at the inter-insular early next month.

Steve Dawes won the men’s title.
