Le Noury paces it just right

Wednesday 15th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JASON LE NOURY emerged victorious in the Sarnia Walking Club’s 20km road race held over a 13.33-lap course at Les Amarreurs. An even-paced walk had him timed at 57-54 for the first 10km, when he was 30 seconds behind his brother, Stuart, who had moved off quickly just prior to this point.

A second half 24 seconds quicker brought Jason home in 1-55-24, with a fast-finishing Terry Bates, also with a quicker second 10 kilometres, half-a-minute behind in second place.

Stuart Le Noury paid for his fast start as he faded in the second half with a slight leg pain, but still finished third dipping under the two-hour mark.

The first three walkers all recorded a personal best time, the Le Nourys removing over a quarter-of-an-hour from their previous 20km.

Bates also sliced a huge margin from Mick Le Sauvage’s Guernsey age best, while Le Sauvage improved his over-65 best by 18 minutes.

A close walk by the first two women saw Carol Bates gain the upper hand over Jayne Le Noury by one minute. The former clocked a personal best and the latter improved her age best.

The next walk is on Friday 24 August at Les Amarreurs over 5km. Start time is 6.45pm.
