Bank staff count the steps to summer fitness

Thursday 16th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

Staff at the Royal Bank of Scotland International have been given pedometers to monitor how many steps they take each day. The initiative is part of the bank’s Shape Up for Summer campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle and to inform staff about what is required to sustain good health.

During the two-week programme, fresh fruit and water are also being made available to all employees.

And a prize will be awarded to the member who has clocked up the most steps during the fortnight.

The bank’s intranet system offers staff advice on healthy living and aims to answer commonly asked questions about health, fitness, nutrition and also tackles issues such as family health and work:life balance. Over the fortnight the intranet is also offering the opportunity for an employees to win a month’s free gym membership by answering questions relating to well-being.

Human resources director Mike McCarthy said the company recognised the importance of health and the well-being of staff, both in and out of work.

‘I hope the staff enjoy the campaign and take part in the various events that will be going on around the buildings and encourage each other to take up the challenge of healthy living.’
