‘We’ve got the weather sussed’
Friday 17th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.
A FLOAT for all weathers is on its way to the North Show next week. Meredith, 8, and Elise Jee, 3, have been busy helping their mum, Nicky, make their weather house float.
‘We came up with the design because it is something that will suit the summer weather,’ said Mrs Jee, whose husband, Nic, made the float structure.
‘Either way, it will be fitting for the day, rain or shine.’
Meredith and Elise will each be under an archway to represent different types of weather.
‘I’m sunshine, so I’ll be under the yellow arch,’ said Meredith, who will also be entering the fancy dress competition with Elise.
‘It will be my fourth time at the show. I think it’s really fun.’
The Jee family has entered floats in previous years, including a magic garden, which won first prize, and a Bertie Bassett float that won second prize in its class.
‘We have ordered 5,000 fresh flowers to put onto the float so there will be flowers everywhere,’ said Mrs Jee.
‘I think making the float is something creative the girls can do in the summer holidays – they are delighted with it.
‘The show makes a great day out and we see all our friends there each year. It’s like our own little village.’
The North Show starts on Wednesday at Saumarez Park.
Judging of the exhibits takes place at 10am, after which the tents will be open to the public.
Throughout the day, islanders will get the chance to see K9 Freestyle Dog Dancing, Dingle Fingle Clown Town Crimewatch and Stallions of Substance in the main arena.
Lt-Governor Sir Fabian and Lady Malbon will be arriving at the show at 11.30am.
On Thursday, the Battle of Flowers Parade will start at 2.30pm and a fire show never before seen on the island will start in the main arena at 10pm.
