‘Listen to people’

Monday 20th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

‘NO MORE masts’ was the message from more than 500 protesters on the move yesterday. Islanders marched from North Beach to Frossard House to deliver a petition to the Environment minister David De Lisle.

Concerns were voiced about possible health implications posed by the masts and the beauty of the island being destroyed.

Some protesters criticised Deputy De Lisle for adopting a neutral stance and refusing to comment on the issue while the applications were live.

St Peter’s parishioner Melanie Symons said she felt like her opinion was being ignored.

‘I think for an elected politician to say that he is going to remain neutral is completely wrong,’ she said.

‘Politicians should represent the views of the people who elect them and be prepared to act in their best interests. I believe they should be more accountable to the electors.’
