Education pays tribute to teaching

Friday 24th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

BAILIWICK students are celebrating another record year of GCSE results. Pupils in Guernsey and Alderney achieved a pass rate at A*-C around 10% higher than their national counterparts. It is an improvement of nearly 6% on last year.

The provisional results so far show that the pass rate of 73.9% for grades A*-C was 5.9% higher than last year.

The number of pupils who sat and achieved five or more A*-C grades also went up from 67.1% to 71.6%.

The Education Department paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of both staff and pupils in achieving this year’s excellent results.

‘Once again the Bailiwick students have performed ahead of those in the UK. These results are a testament to the effectiveness of teaching in our schools and the positive attitude of pupils towards learning,’ said a spokesman.

‘All those involved should be justifiably proud of today’s results.’
