Magloire joins Mahon at the academy

ANOTHER Guernsey boy is following his dream to become a professional footballer. Marcelle Magloire has secured a place alongside fellow 16-year-old Sarnian Kieran Mahon at the new FootballCV Academy when its doors open for the first time next month.

‘It’s a dream of mine to become a professional footballer and play for a Premier League side just like my hero Cristiano Ronaldo,’ said Magloire.

‘The FootballCV Academy is a great opportunity for me to make that dream come true – I’m really excited and looking forward to the start of training in September.’

The St Martin’s left back went through a series of trials and was chosen from hundreds of hopefuls for the Academy which is the first of its kind in the world.

It is an independent, private, residential football academy, totally dedicated to the footballing and educational needs of its students.

Based at Rushden & Diamonds’ Nene Park ground in Northamptonshire, the Academy will play a number of friendlies against Premiership and Football League opposition in addition to daily training programmes.

They will also compete in the Football Conference Youth League against the likes of Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers.

Former Chelsea and Northern Ireland striker Kevin Wilson is the Academy team manager.

After training, Magloire will head to the classroom with the rest of the team to continue a comprehensive football education with seminars and workshops. There will also be visits to football games and the chance to hear guest speakers.

The budding footballers will work also work towards a Btec National in Sport Level Three certificate which is the equivalent of two A-levels.
