Jennifer gets first bursary

Thursday 30th August 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JENNIFER MARTEL is the first recipient of the BWCI Bursary Award. The bursary, which was specially designed to support local students, attracted 20 applications.

Miss Martel, who has just completed her first year studying for a BSc in psychology at Southampton University, was chosen from a shortlist of five.

During her two-month summer placement at BWCI, she is participating in a structured programme of work in order to gain experience in the different areas of our business.

This training programme will continue over the next two summers, at the end of which time Miss Martel may apply for a permanent position if she chooses.

The former Grammar School pupil spends much of her spare time working on a voluntary basis for the NSPCC and her local community centre.

* New applications for the bursary will be invited in early 2008.
