A SMALL fire broke out in the roof area of the Guernsey Tennis Centre, Longs Camps, St Sampson’s, at about 7.30 this morning. Firefighters were called at 7.32 and two appliances were at the scene within five minutes.
Watch commander Milton Le Moignan said: ‘It was a relatively small fire confined to light fixtures within the suspended ceiling, but it has caused smoke log of the upper first-floor area.’
Three people were in the building when the fire broke out and all left safely.
People were to be allowed back once fire crews had finished ventilating the building.
Centre manager Andy Privett said he came down to use the gym at about 7.30.
‘As I walked in through the door the woman who was running the gym told me that there was a fire and asked me to call the Fire Brigade,’ he said.
‘Certainly on the tennis side we can carry on as normal.
‘The Fire Brigade need to do some checking upstairs and I think the gym might be closed for a while.’
It is understood that damage is minor.
