Saturday 6th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.

CHRIS SIMPSON eased his way to the men’s singles final of the 2007 Bowls and Squash Games. Guernsey’s 20-year-old professional who has a world ranking of 53 defeated Martin Knight in the semi-finals at Beau Sejour. The New Zealander is currently 107 in the world and he went down 3-1.

‘It was pretty tough,’ said Simpson.

‘He’s very strong and physical. He just tried to push me physically all the way.

‘I made too many errors with my shots. We play with a 17in. tin on the circuit and this is 19in., so I was touching the tin each time.’

His victory booked a place in the final against top-seeded Aaron Frankcombe of Australia.

The Aussie, 22, has a world ranking of 51 so a close final was on the cards.

‘I’m pretty confident, I feel good,’ said Simpson before the match.

The tournament gave Simpson who is now based in a rare opportunity to play on his home courts.

‘It’s nice being back,’ he said.

In the women’s singles finals it will be an all UK affair with Yorkshire’s Kirsty McPhee taking on Nottingham player Emma Beddoes. McPhee has a world ranking of 57, while Beddoes is 60.

In a round robin format, they both defeated Guernsey’s Alison Strobridge to get to the final.
