Law courts more backing as he weighs up options

Friday 19th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.

CHRIS LAW is weighing up his options having proved himself an exciting talent in his debut season of the Renault Clio Championship. The 17-year-old Guernsey rookie professional racing driver had a great weekend at the final meeting of the 2007 series at Thruxton, demonstrating his extraordinary ability once more.

He had not driven at the circuit for two months and initially qualified for the Saturday race in 22nd place on a grid of 34.

Law had a great start, but his race was over at the first corner as he got caught in someone else’s incident and lost his front wheel.

Unperturbed, the young Sarnian set his mind on the following day’s race and produced a very mature drive.

He again started from 22nd place on the grid and worked his way through the field, finishing a brilliant 12th.

‘After Saturday’s incident I was gutted,’ Law said.

‘I was determined to make a strong impression in this last meeting of the series and get noticed.

‘On Sunday I put all thought of failure aside and worked on a strategy to move through the field and avoid any trouble, so I was pretty chuffed with 12th and wanted a few more laps to finish in the top 10.’

A group of Guernsey fans were present to see Law in action, including Guernsey Kart Club captain Dave Corson.

‘Chris drove fantastically and to come up through the field of older and more experienced drivers to finish in the points is a great achievement,’ he said.

Law’s father, William, was full of praise for his son at the completion of his debut campaign.

‘Dads are bound to be proud of their children, but Chris has proved that he has something special when it comes to motor racing,’ he said.

‘When you consider he started the year having only ever driven a couple of hours in any car at age 16, his performance has been superb and well ahead of some seasoned campaigners.

‘We are now considering options for winter racing and next summer.

‘We still need sponsors, but it is incredibly tough to get sponsorship. We believe that businesses in the finance sector that sponsor Chris can win new business with high net worth clients by joining us at the races and becoming part of the team and meeting people in the industry interested in what Guernsey can provide in terms of financial services.’

Any businesses interested in sponsoring Chris Law are asked to contact William on 233335 or 07781 137858 and discuss the options available to help groom the teenager for greater success.
