A NEW concept in beauty therapy has been launched at Cobo Bay Hotel. The Day Spa has opened for business and is specialising in products containing only natural and organic ingredients, which Rachael Day, who established it, said was an exciting new venture.

‘We are all being encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint and help the environment so when I began planning the spa, I made the decision to use as many natural products and recyclable materials as possible,’ she said.

‘People are increasingly health conscious and want to remove harmful chemicals from their lives and this includes a demand for a healthy beauty alternative.’

Mrs Day has had more than 20 years’ experience in the hairdressing and beauty industry. Following her career as a beauty therapist and salon manager, she set up and managed the beauty therapy course at the College of Further Education.

During that time she completed her training as a lecturer through Southampton University and later became the college’s programme manager for hairdressing and beauty and holistic therapies.

She said the spa would be the only one in the Channel Islands to offer Dr Hauschka and Pure Fiji treatments, which are free from artificial preservatives, colours, fragrances and emulsifiers.

‘The team of qualified beauty therapists is undergoing an intensive training programme in the new treatments.

‘One of our staff has already qualified as a Dr Hauschka aesthetician and she is one of only 100 in the UK to have gained the qualification.’

Work is also about to start on a purpose-built luxury spa at the Cobo Bay’s sister hotel, The Farmhouse, to which the Day Spa will move in 2008.
