‘The pressure is on Bels,’ says Saints boss Fallaize
Tuesday 6th November 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
BELS welcome back striker Neil Clegg from suspension but are set to be without key defender Sam Cochrane for tonight’s top-of-the-table Sure Mobile Priaulx League encounter with St Martin’s at the Track. Clegg has completed a 35-day ban for a sending off against Rovers and is expected to lead the attack alongside new American recruit, Mark Laws II.
But with Marc McGrath still sidelined and now island defender Cochrane is a doubt due to a medical condition, the pressure is on Micky Ogier’s side not to lose a third game with just a third of their season gone.
St Martin’s have already beaten Bels once and Saints coach Colin Fallaize was happy to point out where the main pressure lies.
‘I think there is more pressure on them than us. They don’t want to get too far adrift and we’ve already beaten them once.
‘But it’s still early days. The season doesn’t seem to have really started.’
Fallaize, who welcomes back midfielder Chris Le Noury after he missed the win over St Paul’s, reports no new injuries and expects to be at strength.
That means ex-Bels duo Ben Coulter and Charles Pinsard continuing their blossoming central midfield partnership.
The pair have brought drive and added energy to the engine room of the Saints side, a point not lost on their coach.
‘They have been a breath of fresh air. They are different characters and they’ve each added a bit to the side.’
Fallaize’s side would go level on points with their opponents tonight if they win and still have two games in hand on them regardless of the result at the Track.
But the Saints man has plenty of respect for them, rating Bels as possessing the best squad in the league.
‘They’ve got a powerful squad and have put themselves up as the benchmark as the side to beat.’
