Tricky subject is seminar topic
Monday 12th November 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
THE Institute of Directors’ first winter seminar is focusing on employee fraud. Recent reports in the media of alleged dishonesty within the island’s public and private sectors brings the topic of the first Yorkshire Guernsey-sponsored IoD event sharply into focus.
Employee Fraud – a Directors’ Dilemma will see speakers reviewing the issue from their own perspective and expertise.
It should appeal to executive directors, those advising directors and managers of businesses and services.
When an employee commits a fraudulent offence it can create a complex dilemma for the employer as to which course of action to take and whom to inform.
The seminar will highlight factors regarding trends, legal issues and ‘rights’ of the employee, with some useful advice to delegates.
Chairing the seminar will be IoD committee member and chairman of the local Crimestoppers board, Andrew Ozanne.
Delegates will hear from DC Graham Goude, of the commercial fraud department of Guernsey Police.
He will provide an overview of trends in employee fraud in Guernsey and how his department can assist employers.
Also speaking will be Advocate Jessica Roland, head of Ozannes Employment, who has had cconsiderable experience before Guernsey courts at all levels and has advised some of the island’s largest institutions on dealing with employment matters.
She will be using her expertise to explore the legal issues from the employers’ perspective along with the ‘rights’ of the employees in these situations.
Over the past few years the Guernsey branch of the IoD has arranged a programme of seminars over the autumn and winter months covering a broad range of subjects.
This one will take place at the Duke of Richmond Hotel on Friday 23 November from noon until 2pm.
