Dodgeball has potential to hit home with youth

Wednesday 9th January 2008, 12:00AM GMT.

DODGEBALL could take off in the island, according to the Guernsey Sports Commission. They were delighted by the take-up of their first tournament last week, which was held at Beau Sejour.

The GSC believe the sport could grow in popularity here and there are already plans to repeat the event.

‘I was really pleased with the turnout,’ said community sports development officer Laurel Garfield.

‘It was always going to be a risk trying something new so close to Christmas and New Year, but I was really pleased that so many youngsters turned up to play, boys and girls, and that they visibly enjoyed the afternoon.

‘We will definitely look into holding another dodgeball tournament in 2008, so watch this space,’ she added.
