Young racer’s season in doubt
Wednesday 6th February 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
CHRIS LAW’S 2008 motor racing season threatens to be over before it starts. The talented young driver and former junior karting champion has run out of funding and there are serious doubts whether he will be on the start line when the Renault Clio Cup season starts next month.
Will Law, his father, is desperate for backing having spent a small fortune on Chris’s maiden season.
‘Last year cost us a horrendous amount of money and we’ve run out of it.
‘He achieved so much last year, although it wasn’t with wins and podiums.
‘Now we’ve passed that first hurdle and this year we can look forward to do bigger things.’
But that is if he makes the grid. As things stand, that is not going to happen.
‘We’ve got the cars, the spares, the team and everything is ready to go. It’s all the other costs that go with it,’ added Law Snr.
The 17-year-old has been entered for the 2008 series, which starts at the end of next month.
‘I’ve put the entry in early and got the number seven. If he races he’s got the lucky number seven on the car.’
The driver’s father says it is vital for his long-term sports career that Chris continues to drive in a competitive format such as the Renault Clio series.
‘Long term we need to get in that seat and concentrate very hard. He’s still training every day.’
Law Snr admits the situation is of grave concern.
‘I’m very worried about it, very upset about it. It’s a real shame.
‘What he has done so far has been phenomenal.’
