PARENTS have threatened to pull their youngsters out of motocross after a race official disqualified five junior riders in a race during a controversial meeting at the weekend.

At the start of the third round of the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club’s 2008 season on Saturday, the race official reminded competitors that it was against the rules for any rider to receive outside assistance while competing.

But he assured parents that if any youngsters were unable to start their machines after attempting to do so, he would exercise some discretion if an adult subsequently assisted. Later, in the muddy conditions, adults could be seen assisting frustrated youngsters as they failed to restart their bikes on several occasions.

Controversy struck in the final junior 65cc race, when the race official felt the need to disqualify five riders, as he felt that they were no longer trying to start their machines but waited for an adult to come to their aid.
