DEREK WEBB has hailed the World Team Championships in China as unbelievable.

The Guernsey Table Tennis Association president has just returned to the island after he watched the Guernsey men and women’s teams compete at the event in the northern Chinese city of Guangzhou. Table tennis is massive in China, which is regarded as the home of the sport, and the tournament featured some of the best players in the world.

The next World Team Championships are in Moscow in 2010 and Webb hopes Guernsey will be there.
‘What a place. It was unbelievable,’ said Webb of China. ‘Our guys were rubbing shoulders with world champions. If they weren’t inspired by what they saw I’d be very disappointed.’
