In 2006 and 2007, 110 were left on States property and the cost of disposing of them was in excess of £44,000, not including staff time. A briefing paper has been prepared in consultation with the Environment, Public Services and Housing departments.

There is currently no States-wide protocol and it is proposed in the paper that Home takes responsibility. ‘Given that the Home Department already deals with the majority of abandoned vehicles, it is proposed that, subject to the department receiving appropriate resources, it should act for any vehicle abandoned on States-owned property,’ said its spokesman.
