PAC chairman Leon Gallienne presented the committee’s review into the overspend on by Social Security on its computer system.

ISLANDERS received a partial apology for another States overspend yesterday.

Past and present members of Social Security said sorry for mistakes made with its new computer system. A Public Accounts Committee review had put the cost at £9.232m. – a £3m. overspend.

But while some were unhappy at how the PAC had gone about reporting in terms of the timeframe and ignoring requests from former department members to have  input, most accepted there had been errors in how the project had been run since the then Social Security Authority president Owen Le Tissier signed the contract in 2000.

In approving the PAC report in the States yesterday, members have directed Treasury and Resources to investigate whether Social Security should retain autonomy over its budget.
