OWNERS of properties in vulnerable places might have to carry out work to get them insured in future.

The island is counting the cost after gale force winds and spring tides combined earlier in the week to make the worst storm for 20 years. Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands technical and claims manager Vincent Bray said he doubted whether insurers would declare properties uninsurable, given the unusual combination of circumstances.

‘However, there may be additional physical precautions required, or recommended, by underwriters at specific risk locations,’ he said.
