Recycling sums could follow UK

THE way recycling rates are calculated is changing in a move that could boost the figure by 5%.

But Public Services has decided to continue publishing the percentages produced by the current method as well so they can be compared with the old figures. There were concerns expressed by board members about the impression changing the calculation method would give as it strives to meet the 50% recycling target set by the States.

Guernsey currently does not include green waste that has been composted and large items removed by bulk refuse in the household recycling figure, which stands at just over 30%. But in the UK, that is included.
