TWO fires at the weekend could have been started deliberately. A derelict house in Burnt Lane, St Peter Port, was gutted by a blaze early on Sunday evening, while three garages in a private clos at St Sampson’s suffered the same fate about six hours later.

Detective Sergeant Karl Zierlinger said there was nothing to suggest that the two incidents were linked at this stage. ‘We have been unable to establish the causes of the fires and investigations are ongoing in conjunction with the Fire & Rescue Service,’ he said.

Fire fighters were called to Les Sejours au Pieds, Delancey Lane, shortly before 11.30pm. A fire that started in a garage had spread to one on either side. All had cars inside. Cilla Thompson’s two-year-old Peugeot 307 was completely burnt out.
