ENTREPRENEURIALISM is underdeveloped in the Guernsey education system, according to the head of the College of Further Education Business School.
Yvonne Tanner said syllabuses typically focused too much on passing exams and not enough on practical business acumen.
‘Students have to cover a syllabus and have the skills to answer exam questions in a certain way,’ she said. ‘They have to give more or less the exact response that corresponds with the marking scheme and are not often given much leeway. We don’t have a system that allows youngsters to try different things. Perhaps we are putting them all in the same jacket.’
