HD scraps Cherbourg
Tuesday 8th April 2008, 2:30PM BST.
HD FERRIES has cancelled its Cherbourg service after just one sailing. Only about 10 people were booked to travel on Friday.
It has replaced it with a direct service to St Malo. The company’s Phil Jones said it realised it would need to launch a full marketing campaign for the route to be successful.
‘We have stopped serving Cherbourg because we had so few bookings,’ he said. ‘We have had very few advanced bookings, certainly far fewer than we had predicted.’ He said the lack of interest indicated that people wanted to go to St Malo instead.

I’m amazed that a firm like HD is still in business. One can expect, when a new line opens up,a few hiccups, but this is unbelievable.Condor had their problems at first, but we find them now efficient and courteous, may that continue.I still believe though that a conventional type ferry would serve the Islands better?
