Sylvans clinch Youth One title

Monday 14th April 2008, 2:29PM BST.

SYLVANS clinched what could well be the last-ever Youth One title at St Peter’s on Friday evening.

As expected, they comfortably defeated Rangers 4-0 to claim their first under-18 title since 1993.

Coach Clive Bateman was a member of that junior team and was delighted to reclaim the trophy after 15 years.

‘It’s fantastic,’ he said. ‘I’m probably more excited than they are. It’s a different sort of feeling from winning it as a player but it means a lot both ways.’

I feel the coverage of Sylvans Youth 1 win in todays press 14th April is very unfair and disappointing. All other winning teams have had full colour pictures of the whole team i.e. Bels Rovers & North all have had team photos. This maybe the last time Youth 1 trophy is presented. After 15 years of waiting the whole team deserve some recognition.

I totally agree with Karen Le Noury, Youth 1 deserve to have a picture of the whole team as this is likley to be the last ever Youth 1 league. They are after all going to represent the Island in Jersey next month. Good luck boys.

    Patience my football friends.
It was always planned to use a squad picture of the championship winning Sylvans side and by the end of this week one will appear.
You are right, they do deserve recognition and in publishing details and pictures of Sylvans past Youth One/Junior A triumphs only last Saturday, we have recognised the club’s excellence in delivering youth talent.
Good luck in the Junior Upton.
