Crime is down by 11%

0526418.jpgTHE number of reported crimes fell by nearly 400 in 2007. More intelligence-led police work was responsible for the 11.4% drop, said police chief George Le Page.

‘It’s good news for the police service and for people in the Bailiwick,’ he said. ‘There are different reasons that go some way to explaining it, one of which is that we’ve adopted a much more intelligence-led policing system.

‘Officers are put in areas which have been identified as problem areas. In terms of staff, we are still understrength, but we’ve sought to use our numbers efficiently and effectively.’ Mr Le Page said it was a substantial drop, compared to the 2.6% decrease in 2006.
