Herm struggling to stem tide of erosion

Erosion on Herms sand banks.
EROSION is reshaping the north coast of Herm.
Tenant and manager Adrian Heyworth said two or three metres of land were being lost every year at Alderney Point.
‘Twenty years ago, the rocks that stick out by the obelisk were covered by the dunes and you could only see the tops. Now they are right out to sea,’ he said.
Ordnance Survey markers and paths have also disappeared beneath the waves.
Some of the lost sand builds up again after being washed around the corner to Shell Beach.
