GUERNSEY will get a taste of Wimbledon next month as a top-division side comes to compete against some of the island’s best players.
The Guernsey Tennis Club team, sponsored by Fortis and captained by Chris Hickling, will play against the Wimbledon team on 11 May as part of the National Club League Southern First Division programme.
Island team manager Rick Denton, who is also director of business development and marketing at Fortis, is excited by the forthcoming test. ‘It is very exciting to be playing against such a prestigious team,’ he said. ‘Many of the players we will be up against are senior professionals so it is a real honour for us to be competing at this level.’
