GUERNSEY’S squash players ruled the roost at the weekend’s Winchester Junior Open. The squad of 17 returned with two main titles, one semi-finalist, two quarter-finalists and two players winning their plate competition.

The stars were Issey Norman-Ross, who took the under-17 girls’ title after beating the UK number three, and Katherin Jensen who claimed the U-13 crown.

‘We prepared well for the trip putting in extra coaching hours for all those travelling, but at the end of the day it was down to those individuals to rise to the challenge and they did not let us down,’ said the island’s director of squash, Peter Bridgeman. ‘The weekend was probably one of our most successful since I took up the position of director of island squash.’
