ENGLAND lived up to their top-billing status as they took the first four places in the men’s singles event on day one of the Senior Triple Crown at the Island Bowl.

The tournament features the best over-50 players from England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Jersey and Guernsey. With the biggest pool of players to choose from, the English are expected to dominate the weekend.

And it was Gary Barlow from Barnsley who took the first gold of the weekend when he averaged 240.67 points a game. ‘I found it very good,’ said the computer analyst. The lanes suited the way I bowl. I was comfortable on the lanes early on and I managed to keep it that way.’
