Praise be the clubs who don’t sell out for cash
Saturday 26th April 2008, 9:30AM BST.
FOR all football’s ills, the GFA senior clubs can proudly put rival team sports to shame in at least a couple of areas.
1 – they all boast their own grounds and have club facilities which are the envy of clubs of similar level up and down England.
2 – they have not sold their soul, taken the money of sponsors, and run.
Look at the Priaulx League table and, refreshingly, there is still not a sponsor’s name in sight.
Picking up the new, pocket-sized Guernsey Cricket Association handbook this week, I read the club contact list with a mixture of mystification and exasperation. What happened to the old fashioned Castel CC?

I think Mr Batiste should get a proper job, like cleaning the streets.who do you think you are, calling the SSL ” a mickey mouse league ” what is wrong wirh having seperate sunday league anyway. It is for the not too serious footy player, who perhaps is not up to priaulx/jackson/railway standard.I know there are a few priaulx has-beens playing in the smaller leagues, and i know there are many people in the GFA who do not think much of the weekend leagues. So therefore they would like to get rid of these ” mickey mouse leagues ” once and for all.

here we go again Mr Rob Batiste is doing what he does best makeing coments about something he knows very little about Football. when will he learn that when it comes to local football and mainly the sunday league. he knows so very little but we the readers have to put up with his dribble every weekend, Mr Rob Batiste please stick to what you are good and it is not writing about local sports as yet again your comments are so far feched. and one more thing leave my husbands name out of this.

An ill informed article on the business league. where are Mr Batistes facts to back up his opinions.
Did the Press Correspondent even contact the Business League representatives to find out what the GFA does for the league. I doubt it or he might have actually written an article with some element of fact in it.
Another ill researched article which doesn’t appreciate the basic facts of playing local sports. Without the generous sponsorship offered by numerous companies teams across the island would fold in the blink of an eye. Although we live in an affluent island money for our leisure time is not infinite, family, mortgage and bills have to come before sport for most of us!!!

Mr Batiste, did you write this all by your self or did you get help from Mickey Mouse. It would seem that you have a fascination with this character. I normally don’t bother with your articles and treat them with the contempt they deserved however I must write to support these Leagues as they provide excellent football for many like myself who don’t want to play GFA football, but still want to actually take part in a sport (obvious something you have never done)
Well I now look forward to two weeks of “nostalgic” reports, using someone else’s historic articles while you spend the time struggling to come up with another award winning article

I think Guernsey football takes itself far too seriously. Are they on a par with the UK premier league? I think not Does it matter what the league name is? NO. 22 grown men chasing an inflated pigs’ bladder is NOT my idea of sport.
