THERE were no surprises as Trevor Gallienne won the inaugural Guernsey Masters on Friday evening. The competition that saw the best 16 players in the island battle it out was the first event of a bar billiards weekend bonanza at the Peninsula Hotel.

Gallienne (pictured), who in November was crowned the world champion, beat Karl Ogier in the final. ‘It was a long night with 10 games but it was a good competition, well organised and it was nice to play on some different tables,’ said Gallienne afterwards.

‘It was good to see other people performing well.’ On his way to the final, Gallienne first won in his four-man group. Bob Chapple, Terry Kenny and Ogier won the others.
