SEPTEMBER’S World Powerboat Championship in Guernsey are already attracting huge interest from the sport’s big names.

Top class entries have recently been received from the Italian Federation, which include the reigning class 3S (six-litre) world champion, De Tommaso, and the current Italian class 3C (two-litre) champion, Diego Testa, who was also second in last year’s UIM Class 3C World Championship.

The event promises to have the world’s top drivers competing for the UIM Offshore Championship for class 3C over three races between Guernsey and Sark. ‘The preparations for the big event in September are going very well,’ said its chairman, Edward Fattorini.

‘We are especially grateful to Nautical Guernsey and Condor Ferries for their support. As in previous years, Condor have offered generous travel concessions for the teams. It will be a major logistical exercise to transport the British teams from Portsmouth and the European competitors from St Malo, so we are working closely with Condor to ensure that all participants can make it to the island.’
