JUDGING for the Insurance Corporation Conservation Awards will take place today.

Four finalists have been short- listed in both the open and school section.

Insurance Corporation chairman Peter Walpole (pictured) said it was a strong batch of entries:

‘Our competition has been running for 17 years and we are always impressed by the diversity of the entries,’ he said.

‘One of this year’s projects aims to raise the profile of marine life off Guernsey’s coast through the making of a waterproof pocket guide, while another is a private wildlife-reserve garden at Le Bigard.

‘There are four very strong schools’ entries too. Unfortunately, it is impractical for us to visit every entry so we had to draw up a short-list. I hope those who did not make it will not be put off and will try again next year.’

The annual competition, which awards a top prize of £2,000 in both the main and schools’ competitions will be judged by a panel of local conservation experts from the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers, Environment Department, National Trust of Guernsey, Earlswood Nursery and La Societe Guernesiaise.
