NURSERY education is one of the top priorities for new Education minister Carol Steere. The board met for the first time yesterday, with Deputy Allister Langlois appointed as deputy minister. Deputy Steere (pictured) wants to see nursery education introduced in this States term.

‘We haven’t discussed it as a board yet, but from my point of view it’s one thing I’m very supportive of and will be pushing. Although bearing in mind if we are introducing a service like that, there are going to be cost implications and our members face difficult decisions on how we get the money unless it’s forthcoming from Treasury.’

She wanted members to stay open-minded on funding options. The previous board started investigations into the possible closure of St Andrews Primary and St Sampson’s Infants to fund nursery education. Deputy Steere is also keen to see work begin on rebuilding Les Beaucamps – architects drawings are already with Environment.
