Stamps are talk of the island

GUERNSEY’S heritage is being celebrated with new stamps. The set of six features words in Guernesiais, the Guernsey patois.
‘While Guernsey-French is no longer the language of day-to-day communications, its link to our social history makes it of interest to international stamp collectors as well as islanders,’ said Greg Yeoman, sales and marketing director at Guernsey Post.
He said the company had for several years been keen to bring out a stamp issue based on the language. Post Europ, which sets all European postal administrations a theme for stamp releases each year, gave the company the ideal opportunity to take a modern look at Guernsey’s own language.
The stamps were designed by Chris Griffiths of Two Degrees North.
