Les Effards is due to be made one-way, but Living Streets would like this to extend to Route des Coutanchez too.
LIVING Streets Guernsey chairman John Gollop has welcomed the introduction of a one-way around Les Nicolles schools – but suggested it includes Route des Coutanchez as well.
On Tuesday, the new Environment board decided to overturn the decision of its predecessor and introduce a one-way system to ensure the safety of pupils going to the new mainstream and special-needs secondary schools, the route of which will be announced in about a fortnight’s time. Deputy Gollop said the group was optimistic that, with new members coming in, action would be taken.
‘I think the experiment will be a success. It will also cut down traffic that has to move across what is fundamentally a rural road.’
It was worth considering a one-way in Route des Coutanchez, he added. ‘It’s a more radical initiative, but it would relieve the problems. A one-way system does facilitate cycle paths, better pavements in a tight road.’
