THREE of the island’s facilities will feature in London 2012’s Pre-Games Guide for Paralympic sports. The organising committee announced the list of successful venues yesterday and will publish its guide of both Olympic and Paralympic facilities later in the summer.
In March, it was revealed that Guernsey’s facilities for archery, athletics, badminton, sailing and table tennis had been listed as potential training camps for the Olympic Games. Three of those, athletics, sailing and table tennis, have also met the criteria to be able to host teams wanting to prepare for the Paralympics.
‘Having got the five sports into the Olympic guide it’s good that we’ve managed to get these in as well,’ said the Guernsey Sports Commission development manager Graham Chester.
More than 170 sporting facilities have been chosen to be included in a brochure that will be sent to all the Olympic countries towards the end of the year.
