Sewage alert as Belle Greve pipe is repaired
Monday 2nd June 2008, 2:28PM BST.
WORK to repair the leaking Belle Greve sewage outfall is to begin this week. Specialist contractors will be installing a new section of pipe to fix the breach, which is approximately one kilometre out from Les Banques.
A team of four divers is due to remove a five-metre length of the pipeline upstream of the leak today and while that is being done, waste water from Belle Greve pumping station will be diverted through the Red Lion auxiliary outfall.
Engineers will measure the exact length of the bypass required and the pipework for that will be constructed ashore before it is floated out to sea. Divers will then remove a further section of the existing outfall, downstream from the leak, to enable the new section to be installed.
Although the work is weather dependent, it is expected to take up to five weeks.
