No one consulted us about one-way

0588438.jpgBAUBIGNY residents and business owners are angry that they have not been consulted about proposed traffic plans for the area.

The Environment Department yesterday released details of the one-way system around St Sampson’s High and Le Murier schools. Derek Sparkes (pictured) is one of many worried about the future of his business.

‘The one-way system has put us in a backwater,’ said Mr Sparkes, of Baubigny Garage. He said the business had been permanently disrupted since the start of the schools’ build. ‘Every time the road closes we lose customers and it takes months for them to return, if at all.’

His son, who is planning to take over the family business, agreed. ‘It’s a disaster, it’s hideous,’ said Andrew. He and his father have run the garage for 13 years.

While I’m very sorry for Mr Sparkes at Baubigny
Garage, a change was obviously necessary and the
new Environment Committee should be praised for
making a long delayed decision. But could a
representative please tell us why the direction
Fontaine – Oatland was chosen rather than the
seemingly more obvious opposite. For one thing it
will make the traffic lights at La Fontaine
    redundant.
